WEATHER - ST. PETER'S CEMETERY

January 10, 2008

Cirrus Angel

Two days after the severe storm system came through Oxford – another incredible sky. Cirrus clouds flowed in overhead from the west and southwest. Sweeping cirrus in bands, layers, and wisps filled the sky. Spectacular!

WEATHER SYSTEM

January 8, 2008 - Oxford, MS

Trees with Cumulus Layer

What a day for weather watching and gazing at clouds. Earlier in the day, this storm system came through Oxford with rain, wind, and lots of thunder. As I was photographing the system leaving, it was dropping tornadoes to the northeast and southeast – around 2:30 p.m.

Winter Trees at Wolfchase Galleria - Memphis

There is nothing like the bare branches of winter's trees, especially when you walk out of a crazy big mall in Memphis and you are totally stunned by the way the outside lights hit the branches. My iphone-camera-mania took over, I stopped dead, and shot the images using a pole for a tripod to steady my hand. The glistening branches looked like they were incased in a thin veil of frozen precipitation.

Cedars with Cumulus

What can you say about the sky when a weather system is moving in from the west or southwest. . . nothing except that it usually implies awesome clouds and a beautiful light and a need for a camera. In this case, again, the iphone. The dark forms of cedars and other evergreen trees makes for wonderful imagery, especially against a dynamic sky.
